The Best Free Agent Signing So Far: Tom Preissing

On the second day of free agency the LA Kings signed defenseman Tom Preissing to a 4 year 11 million contract. That averages out to 2.75 million a year. He hasn’t had much experience as he’s played only 3 years out of the NHL since leaving Colorado College but he’s a consistent 40 point player who I value as a 4 million dollar player. Cory Sarich and Roman Hamrlik easily got much more money then though the latter is good defensively. With Preissing he’s a steal because 2.75 million a year is usually reserved for the #6 defensemen with no actually offensive input.

Preissing had a +40 rating but also had 7 points in 20 playoff games and when his ice time increases you will probably see an increase in every statistical category. So far he is the best free agent signing based on value per dollar.
