Sidney Crosby signs 5 year extension

I figure that I haven’t really talked about Sidney Crosby on this blog so I figure what a better time especially since he’s in the news.

Crosby signed a 5 year 43.5 million extension yesterday and it’s big news because Crosby is not 20 yet (August 7th is his birthday) and he’s deserving of being of the top paid players in this league.

Crosby still has big improvement to make. He is one of the best passers and puck handlers in the league and his only flaw is he doesn’t have a big shot nor does he have the most accurate shot. He actually had less goals in 36 then his rookie year and he still won the Art Ross. I do see Crosby improving this and he will eventually put up a 50 goal season in 3-4years. He is definitely going to repeat last season easily as he is an assist monster and as his young corps around him gets better the more points he ultimately racks up.

At $8.7 million he is a bargain and if Pittsburgh was dumb enough to let him go to free agency even just restricted free agency like you say with Thomas Vanek, he would have received career offers like 10-year contracts worth 100 million or 15 year contracts if he wanted to take any of them. So in the end Pittsburgh saves money and Crosby benefits as once this contract is over he probably will get double the money and it is perfect for an even bigger raise.
