Online Casino Gambling Guide

Online-Casinos.com is a a gambling guide that includes various tips and their own reviews of other casinos and various resources to help the aspiring gambler.

They have some really awesome features on the website. One of them is an non-downloading-required program (you can if you want) that card counts a single deck game for you. Card counting itself isn't illegal and this enables you to keep track and do well in blackjack. The application is called Card Keeper.

There are also the traditional applications that are useful such as the odds calculator in poker.

They also have this application called Blackjack Better. The ultimate goal is to recognize what is the right move, e.g. to hit, stand and double up. It cues in when you make a wrong decision. Actually pretty helpful when it says I should double up or I should hit when I have a 15 or 16. Pretty interesting stuff. This is one I'd check out if you have no experience playing black jack.

They have some various programs here and there such as roulette but it's less fun.

They also have introductory videos if you're interested in learning how to play the other types of poker such as 7 Card Stud or Omaha. My favorite to watch is the Roulette instruction.

This website is very good for beginners as well as there are some information for the more experience gambler/player to use such as the Card Keeper as well as an interactive way of teaching people. The videos are effective but flawed as they can't be played back in certain area and it plays automatically (generally considered a no-no).

It's still very effective and informative and the best thing is that it's all free information. Definitely check it out.

What should the Leafs do?

The Leafs need a new GM and a coach. Starting from scratch from up top. People who are dumb say the Leafs should just throw everything away and get Tavares and rebuild. I will point out that doesn't work that well and teams don't have to be out of the playoffs to make it. You only have to rebuild when your team makes a cup run and ultimately fails. Toronto hasn't done that inawhile, it's more about making smart decisions and drafting well. Philadelphia didn't need to rebuild, they brought in Briere, Timonen, Biron, Lupul, Hartnell while making some smart moves to refill their team. Those acquisitions cost a ton of money and they even missed the services of Simone Gagne. The real story is that their moves WORKED.

The fact is you need star players and people who give you equal value to what you're paying them or more.

The first strategy of "playing" for Tavares would require the trade of first and foremost goaltender Vesa Toskala. I think it's a fact he's here to stay and he can be good enough to take a shitty team to stay out of the basement.

Buy out:
Andrew Raycroft (salary = 2.2 M, cap hit = 2M, buy out amount = $1.47M, split over 2 years = 0.733M/ year) equates to 1.2 M savings this year with a 733K cap hit next season.
-Not a bad move to save 1.2 M, can get a decent player to sign for cheap, the 733K is no different from having Ed Belfour's contract on our payroll like the past 2 seasons

Think about buying out Mark Bell:
I wouldn't do it but if you do buy him out that would be 1.6 M saved with 800K carrying over to next season.

Don't buy out Darcy Tucker or Jason Blake. Tucker would have a 6M buyout spread over 6 years which would equate to 1M per year. Toronto would only save 2M for those 3 years and paying for it for the next 3. He adds more to this team then 2M and shouldn't be considered a sunk cost.

Jason Blake: 10M buy out over 8 years with a 1.25M cap hit each year. Would actually save $3.25M the first two years and then only $1.75M the next two years (or 2.75M in cap space). I'd rather wait this one out. The cap hits may be different. Don't have a complete understanding of the rules.

How about McCabe: Buy out = 9.63M which would be spread out over 6 years. This one I would consider as you can probably get a better player for that 5 million in extra space. Otherwise try to trade him

Keep Sundin...if he gives an appropriate discount. Nothing more then $5 million. Makes no sense for him to take up cap space when he claims he would like to win. The Leafs need cap space badly.

I would not trade Kubina. Toronto needs him and if we trade Kubina it would mean we would be stuck with McCabe (shudders).

Toronto needs to bring in some top of the line players as our high priced guys have sucked but for the most part one big name needs to be outed and some prude and cheap moves COULD shore up this team.

I would consider trading either Ponikarovsky or Antropov. Usually one seems to be one while the other struggles. These guys are horses and teams are looking for these kinds of guys. Antropov looks like he wants to stay but at what cost? He's a free agent and may be worth while to trade before the free agent deadline.

I'll look at the possible takers for McCabe but they probably won't take him.

Leafs FINALLY fire Paul Maurice

The Leafs finally fired media savvy Paul Maurice as the head coach of the Toronto Maple Leafs. About fucking time eh?

I've been calling for his head for some time and he is arguably the reason JFJ got fired. Maurice has been erratic and inconsistent with the Leaf team and as a coach is your job to get the team to play their best night in and night out and that didn't happen. Only when there were rumbling in the media did the Leafs win and the Leafs played well down the stretch as they always do further proof that Maurice had a problem motivating the team.

This move is also great for the new GM as he won't have any blood on his hands and Cliff is one of the best guys to work with the media. Toronto NEEDS a top notch coach and top notch GM now.

Kalib Starnes Is Still A Wuss

Kalib Starnes made a statement of his horrible UFC 83 performance. He basically admitted to being afraid of being knocked out.

Here's his writeup:

I was never on any Montreal radio show. If anyone knows what radio show that I allegedly appeared on, or has any recording of it or any evidence of it whatsoever I would love to know about it. So far I've only heard rumors and allegations. I did not throw the fight, the fight was not a protest against the UFC.

I will say again what I've said before; I had the game plan of circling and moving to stay out of exchanges and to work off of my jab because he hits so hard, to avoid the clinch because he was very strong and I'd taken knees and elbows there in my previous fight, and to throw some kicks as the fight wore on.

I threw 35 punches in the first round and I would have thrown a lot more had I landed any of them, but I found him very difficult to hit and he was counter punching whenever I would step in, with one of those counter punches almost dropping me early. Most of my takedowns come out of the clinch and when I tried to switch it up and get position in the clinch to take him down I couldn't do it because he seemed much stronger than me.

In the second round it was more of the same except that he almost knocked me out again early which made me more hesitant to throw punches so I decided to throw some kicks and at about 2 minutes into round two I threw a low right roundhouse kick that hit his shin awkwardly and I broke my foot, which stopped me from throwing anymore kicks, other than a few tentative kicks with my left leg. **That is not an excuse for losing it is simply something that happened and for me to mention it I think is quite reasonable.

I found myself in a fight where I couldn't stand with the guy, he was awkward and he hit hard having almost knocked me out three times in the fight, I couldn't take him down and work my ground game (I got him down only once and just managed to land a few shots because he got up so fast), and so I felt like I could either keep moving or get knocked out. Then late in the third he started to mock me out of frustration, but really at that point, I was just a solidly beaten fighter who was trying not to get knocked out, and had fallen into a pattern that I couldn't get out of. It was the worst athletic performance of my life.

Afterword his cornerman was swearing at me and calling me names, I responded to him by calling him names and telling him that he should get in there and fight then, meaning fight in the UFC, not fight me. He apologized to me afterword I suppose realizing that he was out of line, and so did Nate and I know that they were both acting out of frustration and so I forgave them and apologized in return for losing my temper. I think it's rediculous that he be made into some kind of hero for mocking a guy that he just beat the crap out of, and I felt forced into retreating because he had such a good offense. I didn't choose to do it as some kind of protest. I did try to win that fight and I did show up to fight, I don't care what Dana White says, I just wasn't good enough on that day to do it. I have no excuses for losing the fight.

I can't speak for anyone else, but I have never said that the UFC does not cover a fighters medical expenses, I'm dealing with their medical claims department right now regarding my broken foot and other injuries sustained at UFC 83, and up until this point they have honored their obligations.

I have as much right to discuss what fighters are paid as anyone else and I know a lot about the subject having fought for the organization in some capacity seven times. Believe me, you're paid if you win and tossed aside like garbage if you lose. Until these guys learn to market themselves the payouts are going to remain pathetic compared to boxing and the UFC's little traveling circus will roam from town to town with the billionaires raking in the cash while the fighters split up about five percent of the take between them.

What prompted me to discuss it were comments about it being wise to get knocked out as opposed to moving out of the way, apparently from brain injury advocates who've taken their own advice. I'm not retiring and I've already been offered more than I ever made at the UFC, which was $5,000 and $5000, plus $30000 fight of the night (which they gave me because I had no heart), plus an additional $25000 (because I don't belong in the UFC presumably). That's $65,000 you clever little monkeys, but remember that if I'd lost I would have walked away with a sweet $5000 and a kick in the ass, because they only pay the winners. The only problem with that is, somebody loses every time.

He doesn't care about running like a pussy but I'd rather get knocked out then run. It's like me saying I don't want to make tackles in rugby because I'll get a head injury or I won't body check a guy because I'll get hurt in hockey. He's a UFC fighter who didn't have a fighter's mentality.

If given the choice, I'd step in the ring to get knocked out in 5 seconds.

National Finals Rodeo

Rodeo may not be my favorite sport and while I have very little knowledge about actually riders, it is a very fun sport to watch on TV. It almost amazes me at the people daring to ride a bull, it's as crazy as those Matadors.

Why would I like to attend the National Finals Rodeo. Just to understand a bit more about the culture of rodeo-ing. It isn't a mainstream sport per se but still a sport and respect all those involved.

You can get Wrangler National Finals Rodeo tickets here. It is held on the campus of UNLV in the gambling capital of the world Las Vegas.

I definitely would like to visit Calgary for the famed Calgary Stampede and while many Torontonians would not admit to liking rodeo, I think it would be very cool.

Also my favorite sport out of rodeo is the bull riding. Watching them get bucked off is obviously the most fun part of it and it usually makes it on television on other shows such as Spiked. The television shows for the most part are entertaining and you really don't need to know the riders names to be impressed.

I also would like to go to Las Vegas for the gambling but going to the rodeo is another good reason!

ReviewMe Loves The Male Chicken

I like writing about when I get fucked over. Even for $5 or $10 (in case $10). ReviewMe fucked me over when I accepted their campaign when I started writing about poker codes for Absolute Poker. The post has now been deleted but I was fucked over and they are citing that it's my fault.

Anyway I accepted a campaign but when I looked at, the campaign didn't allow me to fill out the "post url" section. Basically prohibiting me from sending the post for review. While the campaign was still up, I sent a message of the problem. I didn't get a response and time ran out on the campaign (the campaign was oddly short, like 12 hours?).

Anyway now they claim that the box url disappears when the deadline was over and that it was cancelled and they didn't get my message yesterday. Go Fuck yourself ReviewMe!

Waste of my time and I fucking did message them but whatever they don't want to give me the dough even though I showed them that the post was done.

What Should Ottawa Do?

From my initial impressions, Ottawa's team and core group is fucked and it needs to be blown up (for the most part).

One strength is that they've got an elite set of forwards...even if they didn't perform in the playoffs. They will eventually but Spezza and Heatley can't be blamed for their troubles in general.

Over the course of the season the problem was first and foremost defense. It sucked and the goalies got the blame. I think the problem with the media is that perceive Emery as a top 5-10 goalie but from the start his stats just show a league average goaltender.

First here's what I'll do with the free agents:

Bye bye bye:
Wade Redden 6.5 M - you're overrated and they need your cap space. Face it, you need a guy like Chara since you're not tough enough. Sure you drop the gloves to show your "man" enough but your play isn't there.
Martin Lapointe
Cory Stillman - doesn't fit onto this team. Too much talent upfront. Giving up Eaves was such a bad trade. They may sign him just to look good to be honest.

Keep:
Chris Kelly - I love this guy. Hopefully they can get him for around 1.5 M otherwise he may end up being pricey for a 3rd line guy. I see him winning a cup somewhere down the road.
Mike Commodore - was iffy but toughness is needed by the back end.
Sean Donovan/Randy Robitaille - you need a 4th line and these guys make up one of the best 4th lines in the league.

Who do they need to sign?
A #1 and #2 defensemen. I would not be surprised if San Jose got Redden and Ottawa got Brian Campbell. If Ottawa does not go after Campbell they are not trying.

John-Michael Liles would be a great addition to Ottawa if the price was right but I don't see him leaving Colorado. Brad Stuart might not be a bad choice but he's a little on the overrated side to me.

Two potential goalies if they release Emery:
Jose Theodore and Christobal Huet. Theodore would be dumb as it would be signing a guy like Emery. Huet WILL have more then one suitor but will be probably end up like Gerber. I'd choose Huet but to be honest I wouldn't do it. I'd rather save the money and the much needed cap space. You could always send Emery to the minors or on assignment to Europe (lol). The problem here is that he had a ton of value before people started pointing fingers. GMs are just saying "no one" will take him but in reality he will be picked up easily once he's released.

I wouldn't release Emery. The fact is this team isn't suited to the win the cup. It may never be but it's not like most teams are. Unless you are trading away Heatley or Spezza...Ottawa is probably going to be a good team but not win the cup.

Mine sure is! Well I chose the wrong upsets and the ones I had a feeling about (and didn't end up choosing) ended working out. It's not entirely busted BUT the Clemson loss hurts the most. It's surprising to see Two 12 vs 13 matches.

I actually had Clemson beating Kansas so that really sucks. In other news no one on Yahoo has the perfect bracket and therefore no one will lay claim to the $5 million dollar prize pool. In fact everyone already has TWO incorrect picks on their bracket.

As for me I'm doing horrible so I guess it's time to study and not worry about it.

Do The Leafs Stand A Chance?

Probably not.

I think what pisses me off the most is that this team was capable of doing well but they just sucked during most of the season in typical Leaf or Maurice fashion.

Speaking of Maurice can we please fire this media-friendly coach already? Sure fans like him and JFJ took the brunt of the allegations but it's clear Maurice can't get the team to fire on all cylinders unless facing certain death.

The Leafs are down 3-1 right now in a must win game against Buffalo. If they somehow manage to come back 4 teams stand in the way of them winning with just 10 games to go. They have to win at least 8 but I think they'll ended up missing once again. Stupid Leafs.. had them finishing 4th, thanks for making me look like a homer even with 5 or so readers.

March Madness with Doc Sports

The regular season for Men's NCAA basketball is rounding to a close and it's time for the yearly historic tournament that everyone seems to watch because of the all gamblings and fun surrounding the tournament. Pickings upsets and filling out your brackets is just as fun as watching the dramatic games whether you're a fan or not.

Anyway Doc Sports a great website surrounding the area of sports gambling. They have everything from sports lines for all the major North American sports, to handicapping their own picks. Some useful information if you're into the gambling thing (which a lot of people are as it's very popular and I find myself involved sometimes). Theyre website is complete with scores and schedules and their layout is easy to navigate through so I recommend this website. Advertisements don't get in the way of important information (ads are present but if you're looking for something you'll find it).

Docsports is preparing for the upcoming NCAA tournament by providing NCAA tournament sports spreads (right now it has spreads for current games but it'll update once the bracket is announced). Their other two popular pages for the NCAA season are of course the bracket and simply the schedule.

A pretty good website worth checking out if you're looking for some help and extra information when filing out your bracket.

Athletes Shouldn't Be The Ones To Blame

Roids, roids, and more roids. Why does athletes always get the blame? In our lives everything is about enhancement from face-lifts to boob jobs. I'm sick of all of it in general. That's why sports media itself sucks, selling out their own for the "hot" story.

Ya I do think it's unfair for athletes who choose the integrity side of sports but everywhere there's inequality. Even in the music industry where it's about being hot shhit and not about actual talent. We've lived with 10 years of Britney Spears and even Paris "I'm a slut and proud of it" Hilton can get a hit song is despicable. I'm not against these artists but I'm more disappointed into the buyers of this shit.

We want actual talent it's true, which is why sport athletes are chastised but look around. I don't think roids are that big of a deal, society wise I don't see it as a problem. Yes, some cultures do revolve around success in sports but it's usually few and far between with those who are absolutely serious. We're not worried about recreational drugs which celebrities casually seem to be using these days.

Here's an article that I liked. You can't say it's wrestlers fault for using steroids or other drugs. They are giving their lives to impress us. If it's anybody's fault it's us for demanding so much out of these people. Using PED's is much more of a competitive thing as if you can make it into the majors you're probably well off financially anyway. I see the use of some of these drugs as something good to use for injuries though by law it is illegal, the banning of mj is still stupid and it's probably more of an economical move rather then a "safety" move.

Bah I'm rambling but reading sports news just fucking sucks.

Favre Calls It Quits

Stracka.com Review

Golf is a wonderful sport to play. I'm not too keen on watching it like other sports but I definitely have my greatest respects to the players. Stracka is a a social network for golfers with a fitting slogan of "for people who love golf".

On Stracka they have a variety of features such as golf course searches, yardage maps of golf courses presented by Google Earth.

The forum is currently kind of small in size but it has a very nice layout with some pretty good information that goes beyond my scope of sports knowledge.

They have guides to certain golf courses which seem like a great with their 3d scans of greens. They have every golf course in the U.S. and they cover golf courses worldwide.

One criticism I definitely would have, which would increase popularity is the coverage of PGA, LPGA and other golf tournaments around their world. There are definitely people who watch and play golf at the same time and it would increase their audience that way. It is a nice looking website with some great information on there but I think they can capitalize more on other golf aspects such as recommended gold equipment and possibly offering out special deals on golf resorts. There is a lot more then can do to improve the interactivity of this website.

Did I Make A Mistake With This Blog?

I fucked up this blog with all the sponsored posts. For whatever reason they're still offers to make money on this blog but I have no passion for it unless it's covering fees on the other website.

It's pretty depressing that I no longer even care about sports as I once did. Possible death of a sports nerd?

I've slowly become a music nerd learning many genres and ultimately improving my musical experiences beyond my wildest dreams.

I still have that passion for sports but media in general has really left me pissed off. From the Michael Vick case to steroids in baseball, could sports news be any more boring? I hated the dry days where there seemed to be nothing else, my life would ultimately feel empty because sports is my life!!

Anyway, I don't know what my future is with sports but it'll definitely fall on deaf ears if I do it with this blog. I think I've got some great ideas to do a "Business of Sports Blog" or covering MMA possibly (I'm trying to take on wrestling and maybe jujitsu in the future).

I still plan to cover sports eventually but things have really sucked in Leaf land and being a sports nerd isn't as cool as a music nerd I must say. I'll still cover the Jays with Bluebird Banter as those guys are great but I still can't get myself to write about it just of yet.

Concentrating only on his basketball site, there are a vast amount products for sale that can help you play some basketball at home such as buying a net or even building a basketball court. Generally with basketball, all you need is a ball and a hoop is play which is why it's a great game to play.

You can get various basketball equipment like portable nets or in ground nets. One great accesory involving
basketball court dimensions are kits that help you in marking lines such a free throw lines, making a key and 3-point dimensions. Those are useful and it gives a better feel when doing such things. I am not sure about a inground basketball system as it would take some construction but it's more permanent and probably more fun to have. I have a friend who had his basketball net stolen while he wasn't at home (who does that?).

The layout is pretty good as navigation is pretty easy and there's no difficulties trying to order something so if there's something you like and from the equipment I talked to you about, feel free to check it out.

It's a great site that is appealing on the eyes and the prices seem good/reasonable (I'm actually not sure but they seem alright).

Winner: Parisyan, don't know enough about Chonan to honestly say. Parisyan needs this to get back into the thick of things.

Houston Alexander vs. Thiago Silva
Winner: Houston Alexander. I haen't seen Silva enough but this one could go either way. Alexander is an aged veteran though and he needs this.

Is Eric Lindros A Hall of Famer?

Eric Lindros officially retired today and the big question, is he a hall of famer or not?

He should be a HoFer. The statistics are there. 865 points in 760 games are hall of fame worthy statistics. Sure you can argue that he didn't have any longevity and he didn't put up with expectations at time. He had a very solid career considering the hype despite not putting up Gretzky like numbers.

The longevity factor is a legit argument in the MLB HoF which has a lot harder restrictions to be honest. If Lindros doesn't get in, Neely doesn't either. Lindros doesn't lower the standard at all.

Philadelphia Phillies Acquire Lidge For Who??

Brad Lidge has not recovered from that big home run that Pujols hit off him. His stock has dropped to astronomically low levels but I still believed he would fetch more then he did already.

Lidge was traded with Eric Bruntlett for Michael Bourn, Geoff Geary, and Mike Costanzo.

Let's look at what Philadelphia gets. Lidge is coming off a season where he had a 3.36 ERA with a K rate of 11.8. His WHIP of 1.25 is a lot higher then desired but he seemed to be on track. He has one year at 5.35 million this season and will likely see a pay raise if he has a successful season. Either way he once was one the league's best closers and still probably can provide for Philly. Bruntlett looks like a utility player at best. He's already 29 so I doubt he is worth much.

The Astros get a CFer, a decent prospect and a bullpen arm. Bourn is arguably the key to the deal. He is has speed and will probably feature as a leadoff type guy, like Taveras who they traded away. He did hit .277 and he will likely improve on that but I can't be too excited about Bourn. Geary is a righty-reliever who does not strike out much and had a terrible whip of 1.44. Being 29 I don't think he is worth much. Costanzo is a decent prospect with a TON of power. Hitting .270 but also striking out 157 times going forward, there are some question marks but will likely at least be a left-handed bat off the bench if not a starter.

I believe the Phillies won this trade easily. They didn't give up much to improve their ball club. I certainly expected a bigger haul to trade Lidge. I would've expected at least a better prospect or another prospect... We'll see how this one pans out since Lidge is a risk. Trading Wheeler looks even more stupid.

I have always personally asked, what was so special about baseball that they did not want instant replay and technology as part of their game?

Some argued that if they add one small thing, why not have a computer dictate the strike zone?

In the end it's about getting the calls right regardless of what sport you're in. I have experience in refereeing (albeit on a volunteer level) as does a friend in umpiring. We know that some calls are just impossible and some of the calls are just so close if you blink you missed it.

Instant Replay has not been officially added to MLB but generally managers did resounding approve it 25-5 for home run calls. This is a GREAT step forward to getting the call right. I think we may still have controversy as sports always do but that's unavoidable.

I probably would institute the challenge option for plays at 1st base, it would reduce the amount of possible hostility between players and managers. It seems like home run balls most of the umpires seem to get it right anyway (to my surprise).

Either way, I've always been a fan of getting the call right. It's a shame for a team to lose on a botched call.

Who Will Win Patriots or Colts?

In an epic match up that occurs yearly, the New England Patriots are battling the Indianapolis Colts as undefeated teams.

Most would argue this is the real superbowl as NFC is thought of as inferior.

It should be a great match up but who wins?

One of my 3 favorite NFL teams is the Colts so I am definitely rooting for them. But I have a belief that the Patriot's team is suited for the regular season match up but not the playoffs. The Colts have methodically beaten teams with games going down to the wire, all hard fought while the Patriots are out right beating up teams. Does anybody remember when this was reversed?

If they face in the playoffs I'd pick the Colts but due to this being the regular season and it's not that big of a deal since it's not for all the chips, I see the Pats taking it.

Do Leafs Fans Suck?

Leafs fans are considered the New York Yankees' fans of hockey except that we haven't won anything in 40 years.

I think the running joke is that we're biased, stupid and we come in big crowds. But from a Leafs fan asking other Leafs fan, do you believe this?

I certainly do. Why? Well I will always be a Leafs whether they win the Stanley Cup (we suddenly have more) to whether they finished the season 0-82 I would still be loyal. By loyal I don't mean I would think that the Leafs would get the Stanley cup next year but because I will always cheer for them no matter what.

Unfortunately we can't say that for my counterparts who are also Leaf fans. Most people (Leaf unfaithful) tend to get critical before trying to rally a team. The only time where the crowd is ever really truly into a game is when the team is in the playoffs. It's so incredibly corporate.

Generally team management is so much about pleasing the Leafs fans by trying to win every year they get dubbed into making the worst moves. I wanted McCabe to walk (if you were a friend you would remember, not sure if I blogged about) but I knew there would be fan backlash if they let him go so I knew it would never happen. It's pretty much about appeasing dumb fans who are worried about what is going on now. They won't accept a rebuilding mode which is probably why we won't get our own Crosby or John Tavares and will have to deal with mediocrity.

I bring all this up because the Leafs are sucking as a home team but are an amazing team on the road. It feels like the atmosphere probably is the most likely reason. With the corporations involved in purchasing Leafs tickets and less going to the die-hard crazy fans who will spend 50 bucks to sit in the nosebleeds there just isn't any passion in Toronto anymore.

There are a lot of smart, loyal Leaf fans out there. This is a poorly constructed post and I'm really tired but the majority of the time being a Leaf fan sucks as I get lumped into a group that people assume are mindless hacks who know nothing about how to manage a team or know value when we see talent.

History is Not in Favor of Joe Girardi

Joe Girardi did an excellent job with the Florida Marlins, they were a mess this year and that could be him riding the young arms too much or him knowing how to handle them. Being a catcher I think it's the latter but Girardi is following one of the greatest manager's ever, can he live up to it?

If history is any indication, definitely not in 2008. With the help of Baseball Reference, I looked at recent moves where a manager left a team despite making the playoffs. This could be for any reason, whether it's a personal resignation, firing etc. I am going to look at success as improving their standing in the playoffs. Most managers are fired due to not winning the big one after years of playoff success.

Failures with Managerial Changes:

Baltimore Orioles - Davey Johnson replaced by Ray Miller in 1998. Johnson led team to divisional series, Ray Miller finished 4th in the division and Baltimore has been looking for a manager since then.

Cinncinati Reds - Davey Johnson(again) replaced by Ray Knight in 1996. Last year they made the playoffs? With Johnson.

Cleveland Indians - Charlie Manuel replaced Mike Hargrove in 2000 to miss the playoffs. Cleveland would make the playoffs again in 2001 but it helped kick start the rebuilding of the Indians.

Houston Astros - Larry Dierker replaced by Jimmy Williams in 2002. Astros failed to make to the playoffs until Williams was replaced by Phil Garner.

Oakland Athletics -actually successful too. Replaced Ken Macha with Bob Green. Finishing out of the playoffs this year. Ken Macha did replace Art Howe successfully.

San Diego Padres - Bud Black replaced Bruce Bochy for this season and just missed the playoffs after winning their division for two straight seasons.

San Francisco Giants - Felipe Alou replacing Dusty Baker. Baker brought the Giants to within one game of winning the world series but left to manage Chicago. Alou actually improved on the season winning 100 games but bowed out in the divisional series. Since it's all been downhill with SF being bottom dwellers.

Toronto Blue Jays - Bobby Cox was replaced by Jimmy Williams. Williams makes his 2nd appearance here luckily for us he was replaced by Cito Gaston.

Successful Managerial Changes
Boston Red Sox - Replacing Grady Little with Terry Francona in 2004 - got over the curse against the Yankees and the rest is history.

New York Yankees - Joe Torre replacing Buck Showalter. We know how this one ends.

As it stands it's 8 to 2 for a team to actually improve this standing by making a managerial move after the team has made it to October. Torre and Francona seem to be exceptions to the rule and likely going to be hailed as HoF managers. Girardi? Eh.....Wouldn't bet on it.

Detroit Tigers Acquire Renteria for Two Prospects

The Detroit Tigers made a big splash yesterday to kick off the off-season with a big trade. The trade was Edgar Renteria from the Atlanta Braves for Jair Jurrjens and Gorkys Hernandez.

Edgar Renteria has 2 years and 20 million left on his contract (last year is a club option) and Renteria provides league average defense with an excellent bat. This is regarded as a hole for Detroit as they moved Carlos Guillen to 1st base.

Jurrjens doesn't look like an a future ace but looks like a solid starter based on his stats and peripherals. He throws between 90-93 but the main issue for him is health (like a lot of prospects). Pitching is a need for Atlanta so I like this move.

Gorkys Hernandez is said to have star potential as he has put up some nice numbers at the lower levels of the minors. He's entering his age 20 season so he has a lot of time to be groomed.

I like this trade for Atlanta. They bought low on Renteria for Andy Marte who is going through his struggles and sold high on him. For Marte, Atlanta got two very excellent prospects that will look to contribute on the ML team in the future and in Jurrjens case 2008. This trade does fill a need for both team as Detroit had a "hole" in the SS stop.

But here is where I feel they are losing. Technically they didn't have a hole until management decided that Carlos Guillen was a better fit at 1B. Guillen instead of being a top SS with his bat is now a league average 1B. So theoretically they should keep Guillen at SS and acquire a bigger hitting 1st basemen. So yeah sure Renteria fills a "need" a self-imposed need that doesn't look good in the long run giving up two prospects. As for Renteria expect him to struggle a little bit with the bat, he is on the wrong side of 30 and his OPS has been above his career average the past two seasons.

Jiri Tlusty: What's In Store For Him?

Jiri Tlusty made his debut on Thursday with as good of a debut as you can get showing off his speed, fore checking skills and all the reasons Toronto made him their 1st round pick in 2006.

I was a little surprised to see him make the Buds line up so early on because I felt like he was probably going to be ready next year. I would have liked to see him develop his offensive game further.

So what should be expect form Jiri Tlusty?

Just understand that he is not considered as offensive savvy as he was in his debut. Last year(first season in North America) he had 34 points in 37 games and 17 points in 13 games. Most scouts would say he needed time to adapt to the culture and battled with some injuries. He also had 3 points in 5 games with the Toronto Marlies.

As history would suggest we probably are not going to see a lot of offense from Tlusty. He may really struggle at times while playing solid defensively. Right now a good possible comparison are his linemates Stajan and Steen.

At least our first round picks are contributing now. Ferguson has made some good picks being GM compared to Quinn.

Tlusty is an interesting player to watch. He probably isn't going to be on the Leafs roster once a lot of the guys come back but he sure has made it interesting allbeit in one game.

NFL to Tweak NFL Draft

The NFL Draft is looking like a success year after year with their high ratings. Especially with huge news stories from Eli Manning being traded, the drops of Aaron Rodgers and Brady Quinn or the Houston Texans passing on Reggie Bush.

I being a sports nerd am usually attracted to things such as the draft. The problem was that it was kind of long and at times borings waiting all the time between picks.

Most of the time as well, the media insiders knew exactly what would happen and the teams made up their mind. The only problem was that 80% of the time, the teams opted to wait for the full 15 minutes.

Most sports organizations would probably say "if it isn't broke don't fix it" but the move from 15 to 10 minutes between selections basically saves us viewers 2 hours and a half and thus leaving us more satisfied.

Chalk one up for the NFL.

Analyzing Ricky Davis for Antoine Walker Trade

The trade is Ricky Davis and Mark Blount traded by Minnesota to the Miami Heat for a 1st round pick, Micheal Doleac, Wayne Simien and Antoine Walker.

The two biggest names are Ricky Davis and Antoine Walker. Ricky Davis probably would be the most sought after player as he is still on the right side of 30 yet he has been everywhere. The problem with Davis is that people are worried that he will be a negative influence on the young ones and I don't mind the T-Wolves making this move.

Antoine Walker I expect to have some bad years ahead of him. Which makes sense to why he was traded by the Heat. This move is also about dollars as well.

The Twolves acquire two young pieces in former 1st round pick Wayne Simien (who does have a chance to be productive) and a 1st round pick that may be useful as a trade piece and overall starting over.

Blount has 3 years and around 22 million left on his terrible contract. Miami accepts this excess salary in order to get better. Walker has 4 years left on his contract however it'll be only for 2 years as it's a team option. Doleac basically replaces the production that Blount leaves but at a much cheaper price.

I think both teams win here so it's not too exciting to talk about. Always fun to rip someone.

Who Will Win the World Series?

I can't make an unbiased pick. I have to choose the Colorado Rockies. Why? Well I hate the Boston Red Sox.

Here is my reasoning to seem "unbiased".

1. Can Boston win at a higher altitude at Coors field?
Measuring how teams simply just suck when they go to Coors (especially pitchers) this home field type of advantage may loom very large. Add the fact if Boston loses one of their first two games, they will have 3 games in a row where the series may never return to Boston.

2. Managerial advantage: Clint Hurdle vs. Terry Francona
Hurdle has seemed to be making all the right decisions. From pulling his pitcher early when seeing an opportunity with 2 outs to start a run he made a BALLSY move. Francona on the other hand has had some heroic pitching performances. He FINALLY removed Crisp from the lineup but about time eh? The way the bullpen has been used has been at head scratcher at times. He sure didn't do Eric Gagne any favors by pulling him out early and Javier Lopez doing a disaster of a job. Gagne deserves some blame but now all of Boston doesn't trust him to pitch in a close game. Way to give your players confidence.

3.Keys to the 21 out of 22 run
One of the important things in both the playoffs and regular season that Colorado has displayed in the big games was their ability to win the close games or win by coming from behind. It's not the actual run that I'm looking at. Winning streaks are overrated because it can easily go the other way. It's just that their players have rose the occasion when it was needed.

With Boston it feels like they are killing their opponents in the game they win but losing on the games that feel close.

We'll see how I do. But I definitely have a good reason to pick the Rockies. Go Jeff Francis

Buffallo Bills Looking to Play in Toronto

This should cause some excitement in some Canadians who make a large fan base of the Buffalo Bills. Buffalo has entertained the idea of playing a pre-season game and 1 regular season game.

Who doesn't like the idea? Well maybe New York-area fans and the CFL.

First off, I first expect a few years where we have the Bills play some pre-season games. Football is a hot commodity in Canada and with the establishment of the international bowl we might earn the right to get an NFL team.

Other then taking baby steps, I definitely think there needs to be a new stadium. Vaughan looks like a top place to have a stadium IF we were ever to get a stadium due to it's closeness to the airport and Toronto's developing metropolitan area.

That said the reality of getting the Bills to play here is slim. Unless you've got patience to wait until... 2015?

UFC in Montreal Put On Hold Again

Another disappointment with the UFC. Basically a scheduled UFC event was to take place in January in the Bell Centre (Montreal). We have a few fighters who represent us well though I think we would all like to see a UFC event here as Europe has received many shows but we arguably have one of the better fighters in the world in GSP.

I really don't have much to contribute in the way of content today but bring the UFC to Canada already!!

It would be a good excuse to visit Montreal if they organized an event...

UFC 77 Hostile Territory Picks

Another month, another UFC event. There has been some news stories that have overshadowed this event I would say but either way it should be good (going to have to watch this next week).

Here are my picks

Anderson Silva vs Rich Franklin:
Winner: Anderson "The Spider Silva". I personally think he is too good standing up that we will see a fight like the rematch. Silva has proven to be an elite striker.

Brandon Vera vs. Tim Sylvia
Winner: Brandon "The Truth" Vera. Vera hasn't fought in awhile and he has been shown in some replay fights as very impressive. I think just based on excitement factor I'll pick Vera to win the fight.

Eric Shafer vs Stephan Bonnar
Winner: Stephan Bonnar. Bonnar is probably going to try to catch up to his TUF counterparts including the light heavyweight contender Forrest Griffin. People will be rooting for Bonnar despite the steroid issue.

Kalib Starnes vs Alan Belcher
Winner: Kalib Starnes. How can I pick against a Canadian? Starnes impressive win over Chris Leben means a lot more now especially since Belcher lost to Grove so easily (and Grove lost to Cote).

Yushin Okami vs. Jason MacDonald
Winner; Yushin Okami. I was impressed at the last part of the match when Okami faced Frankin. Okami has the skills to win and get back near the top of the middleweight ladder.

Shouldn't Charlie Weis Be Fired?

Charlie Weis is a respected former NFL assistant coach. However this year it has been a rough year for the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. It's true that they have a very tough schedule with the likes of USC still up. But all things aside if this was anyone but Charlie Weis wouldn't they be fired already?

A 1-6 start is never good even if your team is better then what the record says. I think some recruits will look at it at face value and probably choose other programs.

Weis had two great seasons with the likes of Brady Quinn but he never actually recruited and put this team together. So should Weis really be getting any credit for those two seasons. Weis has put together back to back top 10 recruiting classes as he has the allure of a professional football program. He was given contract extensions just to stay so I understand that "firing" Charlie Weis is an impossibility.

I myself got caught up with the Charlie Weis hype and yeah you can say I am only saying this because they are sucking. Just look at it this way, even with his great recruiting classes, the Fighting Irish football team has yet to win that big bowl game and it's usually up wins and losses when evaluating a coach.

Most of the blame it seems were due to the two recruiting years where Tyrone Willingham couldn't get "jack" apparently and Weis' first year where he refused to divert his attention away from the Patriots.

That is a fair argument but what about the end of this year? I'll give Weis a pass if he can haul in a really good recruiting class despite a significant off year.

Coaches are defined to be great when their backs are against the wall and the future of the Notre Dame program rests on his shoulders. Should Weis leave the ND job for an NFL team my respect for him will drop significantly.

Hartley Fired Shouldn't Waddell Follow?

This opinion isn't really different from what other media outlets are saying. I generally disagree with a lot of publications (or else why would I have this blog? ;) ).

Anyway Bob Hartley was fired today to no real surprise. I can't say it's entirely Hartley's fault as the Atlanta organization seems to be in a dead spiral. I have to say that I would put more emphasis on the GM's shoulders.

I have bashed his trades and moves from the second I have heard them reported. While it was great to "mortgage the future", the future is apparently now and they are FCUKED to say the least.

This team IS exciting to watch. All offense no defense teams are entertaining. They have a lot of skill but the team that they have put together isn't complete to win. They have skilled players but they always seem to off themselves of the money players like Belanger or Metropolit. They instead tried to go all-in with Keith Tkachuk. Waddell doesn't know how to win championships. He should take a note out of Minnesota's book. Hint: guys like Brian Rolston.

Atlanta future looks very gloomy. This is the worst case scenario in the next few years if this keeps up. Due to the losing atmosphere guys like Marian Hossa and Ilya Kovalchuk start showing their displeasure and then demand trades. Future Roberto Luongo to be Kari Lehtonen (he will be amazing anywhere else) will also demand a trade and be on his way out.

Ultimately Atlanta will be ripped off by trading away disgruntled players, and thus stay out of the playoffs the next 7 years! The team then moves to Winnipeg due to the low attendance and the amazing Canadian dollar which is now valued at $1.25US. :)

All jokes aside, I am not sure there can be any turning back from this ultimate fate. Waddell needs to be fired but I am not sure ANY general manager can fix the mess that is the Atlanta Thrashes.

Boy it must suck to be in Atlanta, Hawks also suck and the Braves lost John Schuerholz.

Dana White Needs to Stop Insulting the Fans

Dana White has continuously insulted "The MMA Web Sites" for the news that is reported and generally the content found regarding the MMA World and that usually involves their UFC fighters.

Things like Sherdog are a great asset to fans. Dana White has been critical of the rankings saying certain fighters don't belong as number one fighters. One of these involves the ranking of Fedor Emelianenko who is considered the number one heavyweight almost everywhere.

He claims these guys are being constantly overrated as they have yet to stop the octagon. It's a fair enough argument but White is obviously trying to posture himself to get better leverage and that's hard to do with all the MMA web sites. After all it is what the fans opinions are and that's how White is inadvertently saying a "F-- You" to the fans without actually saying so.

Even if White feels as if Emelianenko is not the #1 heavyweight, the fans won't change their opinion unless he actually fights against one of UFC's top challengers. That window has seemed to pass and more fans are upset that they won't see the perceived #1 fighter in the world.

White needs to get the fights we want to see. Isn't that his job?

Don't Believe The Hype: New York Rangers

Anyway apparently everyone's choice to win the Stanley Cup is the New York Rangers or at least according to the "experts".

Do not believe the hype (unless you're a Rangers fan, I'll cut you some slack). The reason is that a Stanley cup takes years to form. Don't you remember the saying that "you can't buy a Stanley Cup team"? Well this is the case here.

I have outlined previously that I disliked the Gomez signing but he will be helpful yes. I think this team is missing a few pieces that make it a serious Stanley Cup contender.

Scoring isn't everything and I feel like trading away a guy like Matt Cullen (to save cap space) actually pulls them away from that Stanley Cup type team that I personally. Defensively they've got pieces to add as well but I guess it's still a solid corps.

Mark my word 2007-2008 is NOT the season for the NY Rangers. Maybe 2008

Thoughts on Jesse Boulerice Suspension of 25 games

It is cheap and doesn't belong in the game of hockey yes. Why is this an important part of the discussion?

Well I just hate how the NHL handles these things. They clearly have an agenda of wanting to look like hard asses now. It's not what they're doing now that really irritates me but how they treated this stuff last season. Hits to the head were usually like at most 5 games and anything in the 25 game suspension was considered to be the sickest of all things.

I think Simon's suspension deserved much more then 25 games as he was out of control as it was a bat swing. At least a cross check is more in control...

I guess you can call it "good" that the NHL is now being hard on the players but it's about time eh?

Randy Couture Resigns from UFC, To Join Fedor?

The UFC before was looking for challengers for Randy Couture for the Heavy Weight championship.
On Thursday a big news story was that Couture was Resigning but not retiring from the UFC. Basically that means that the UFC is without a real top flight heavyweight which is supposed to be the classes of classes.

Some rumors going around is that Couture is expected to fight Fedor but we will have to see if that happens.

I think it is big news because this may start the beginning of the end for the UFC. Some guys with big wallets are looking to enter the game (Cuban) and it can really start a war and inflate money given to the fighters. It will be an interesting angle to watch just like WWE vs the WCW.

One of Couture's reasoning for leaving was due to the pay scale and he plans to just do movies. I do respect him despite his poor record. He is a great announcer and has proved time and time again as a good coach bringing up many fighters.

I am still going to watch the UFC but as I get more interested in the MMA sport, if other ventures have some really good fights I am not going to be able to resist not watching those.

Ontario Referendum Fails! Are Ontarians Stupid?

The Ontario provincial elections were on Wednesday and while it was a slam dunk for the Liberals as they gained a few more seats, another important vote on the table was the referendum to change our political system.

The new proposed system failed resoundingly in a 63.4% to 36.6% failure. Before I get into the stupidity of the decision my fellow Ontarians made I should explain what the vote was for.

The old system and the one we currently have is called a First Pass the Poll system. Where members of each political party campaign out of a certain areas (called Ridings). Basically the province is split into certain sections based on where you live. The group that has won the most ridings gets to have their leader act as the premier. It basically works this way with the Federal elections.

The new system the Mixed Member Proportional is a mix between First pass the Poll and a group of members which represent the percentages in the popular vote. Basically voters were able to vote for members of their riding AND vote for the political party of their choice.

Instead of 1 vote you would have two votes and therefore more of a say as a voter.

Is there anything wrong with the old system? Not really but there were much more BENEFITS to adopting the new system. I think one of the issues that the Mixed Member Proportional system would have solved would be the low voter turnout.

One problem for me was that in my riding I KNOW the Liberal Party will win regardless of what I will. My area has been Liberal for the last 20 years and I doubt it will change. Not that there is anything wrong with it but it is for the minority. The few thousand people who wish to vote for the Progressive Conservatives, the New Democratic Party or even the Green Party will have their vote WASTED. With the MMP system at least your vote gets counted as a minority and you know that it will be represented in some small way.

Other obvious advantages is having TWO votes instead of one. Why would Ontarians give up that right?

There are a few various arguments about the new system. First off is that proportionality of the system doesn't require the representatives to actually interact with the public and may create another barrier. This one is a fair argument actually especially if you are involved with talking to your area's representative. I know for a fact though that this only applies to 5% of the public as most of don't care and move on with our everyday lives. Other arguments include costs for having a larger government etc but there weren't many arguments that really stood out.

So why did the better system lose out? IGNORANCE. Apparently the government of Ontario spent 6 million to educate people on the new system but most people didn't know anything about the new system and they rejected it. Failure to look u the information for themselves they were ignorant and decided to GIVE UP their right to more choices just because they were lazy!

This makes me feel SICK. Ontarians chose the less democratic choice just to have a status quo in a system that doesn't promote equality.

Let's take a look at the popular vote: Liberals: 42% PC:32%, NDP: 17%, Green: 8%
Percentage of power: Liberals 66%, PC: 24%, NDP: 9%, Green: 0%

Canada is basically two major parties but clearly the other political parties take up 25% of the vote which is a huge number but are represented only by 9% of the politicians.

This impower balance is what upsets me the most. Being a country of equality, Canada sure isn't equal to its minorities. I find that Ontarians are stupid for missing a chance to have more rights and more say in political elections.

I think I'm never going to vote again because I know my vote won't count. If the people wanted to elect an idiot, there would be no way for me to stop them. Talk about making fun of Americans for electing Bush. Ontarians are just as foolish and I am no longer PROUD to be part of this "better" place.

Recap of the Leafs First Week

The main headline out of this week was the shocking news story that Jason Blake is battling leukemia. This is more then the game but we have the greatest of respect for him for the willingness to play hard day in and day out. I don't want to keep talking about this so it's best to keep our attention on hockey.

The Good: Toronto actually matched up well with Ottawa. Ottawa looks like a team that will take the East Conference (but lose in the playoffs). No longer are the Leafs getting shelled 6-0 in back to back games so while 3-2 losses don't normally bode well when it's against a tough team like Ottawa it is.

The bad: The powerplay and offense sucks. It may be early in the season but right now the offense doesn't seem to have the same fore checking and game controlling prowess of last season. Last season they had dominant control of the puck but just couldn't finish. If they can return to that style this year it will propel them far (including the playoffs) and take the pressure off their weak defensive corps. Where are you Carlo? We need you now!

The Ugly: Loss to Carolina 7-1. Any way you spin it, losing 7-1 is never a pretty sight. Even worse people (including me) praised Toskala on having a solid game. The defense was atrocious especially with their positioning and awareness. These guy seem lost and need coaching. The offense was not cycling like it was supposed to. Too many attempted passes across the middle of the ice most of which are ill-advised without their players looking and cause the odd an rushes that have been deadly and kills all the momentum a good shift does.

There need to be some changes all of which I believe the coach can fix. SO we'll see how they do next week.I have to do these types of posts for now on especially with school so sorry folks.

MLB Championship Series Predictions

First off, I am glad the Yankees are out! Woot one less enemy, now time for Cleveland to help out a Jays fan again. I am hoping the Yankees fire Torre and lose A-rod because that means the Yankees are going to suck :P.

Anyway getting off topic, let's go with picks.

Cleveland Indians vs. Boston Red Sox
Winner: Cleveland in 7 games.
Analysis: This should be a great series. You have great pitchers on both sides each with the propensity to get blown out (Shilling, Sabathia, Byrd, Dice-K). The hitters should prove to be exciting though I would give a slight edge to Boston as they are betting clutch players. I like Cleveland's group of 4 solid pitchers and I think this one is a toss up. Some games will be of the edge of the seat variety others will be blow outs. Go Tribe!

Arizona Diamondbacks vs. Colorado Rockies
Winner: Colorado in 6.
Analysis: Arizona proved most people wrong by easily beating the Cubs. This one should be a great battle. I do give a lot of points for Arizona beating Colorado in their biggest game of the season but the Rockies are in a Cinderella type of story and I don't want to pick against it. I have give the edge of pitching and hitting to Colorado.

NFL Week 5 Results Against The Spread

Another mediocre week going 7-6 bring my season record to 41-27 against the spread. I am not surprised as I probably should spend a bit more time analyzing. I forgot to include the Titans/Falcons games.

The spread hurt me in 2 games where I selected the winner but the teams didn't get the necessary points.

The games that I feel I was flat out wrong about:

Dallas/Buffalo - Very surprising to see their defense do so well. Very depressing to see them lose though. Tony Romo redeemed himself as he most importantly got the win despite the struggles.

Chicago/Green Bay - I guess it's time I stopped overrating the Packers.

Tampa Bay/Indianapolis - This one hurts. I was picking Tampa Bay to lose but win based on the spread. I guess it was a bad risk though those picks have worked for me in the past.

Anyway, another mediocre week hopefully I can get another runaway week or something.

Jason Blake To Continue Playing Despite Having Leukemia

Today, Jason Blake announced that he has a rare form of leukemia but says he will continue to play. The disease is Chronic Myelogenous Leukemia.

CML from my research is due to the unregulated growth of myeloid cells in the bone marrow. Overall though some of the symptoms include malaise, low-grade fever, increased susceptibility to infections, anemia, and thrombocytopenia with easy bruising.

I have a much greater increase in respect for Jason Blake. It must be tough to be living with and it may still affect his game even though he says it's not. It's good he has come out at the start of the season with the news. It doesn't matter if I'm a Leafs fans hear as this is something to do with outside the scope of hockey. Like other players who've overcome cancer they have 10 times the respect as it's something normal people of everyday life do not want to live with.

Minor League Splits Ripped Me OFF! Boycott Jeff Sackmann!

Earlier this year, in February and March I decided to sponsor some of my favorite Blue Jay Prospects which linked to this site.

The prospects I sponsored for Minor League Splits -MinorLeagueSplits.com (not deserving of a link) were Travis Snider, Curtis Thigpen, Ricky Romero and Brandon Magee. Each were highly rated entering the season and I figured other Blue Jay fans would stumble across my site.

Recently a topic has come up where we wanted to sponsor Blue Jays to promote out site Bluebird Banter from the income we have generated. Suggesting that I have already sponsored some members of the Blue Jays it would be a good idea to include them.

However, I found out the sponsorships were REMOVED without notice. I have no idea how long they were removed for but the term of the sponsorship was supposed to be a full year and I am obviously screwed out of my money. Whether it is $20 or not MinorLeagueSplits.com doesn't deserve another dime from anyone.

I had contacted owner of MinorLeagueSplits, Jeff Sackmann where he is refusing to respond. Ontario Referendum Voting on October 10th

I HATE talking about politics. Why? Well it's an inefficient system and most people don't really know how it works. Information isn't exactly easy to access and if you want to find out about candidates especially in your riding the information doesn't seem to be helpful.

To the casual person, do we really know who has what influence and whether they say what they are doing? We have our own lives to follow and keeping up with politics is probably one of the most boring things ever. I think people vote more for the political party.

The Ontario Referendum is coming up where voters can choose to keep their old system (First-Past The Poll) where a person who is elected in a riding represents that area. It makes sense but it's greatly flawed as most people vote for the political party and not the representative.

The new proposed system is where you can vote for your area representative in addition to to voting for the political party of your choice. They will have list members picked so that the number of members represents the proportionality of the public votes.

I am going to vote for the NDP
as the Liberals plan to close the local hospital to make a larger hospital in the middle of 3. I think they are planning to close 3 hospitals with the plan to make a larger one like the Downtown hospitals but the last thing we need is hospital closures here.

As for the system, I am voting for the second system. I think voters are given more of a choice and therefore more power. Voting for a representative who you know won't win is pointless and basically ruins your votes. Being able to cast another vote for your party will allow a more even representation of the public's opinion.

I see more minority governments taking place like we've had previously due to Canadians all have differing ideas.

Aliens in America is Funny!

Aliens in America is a show I randomly ended up watching on Monday while changing the channel as an alternative to "Prison Break". This show first and foremost made me laugh hysterically. It's not one of those punch line shows but has that subtle type of humor that just works incredibly well.

I was glad this was the first episode as I needed no introduction. The story involved the life of geek Justin Tolchuk who is a social outcast. His mom recruits an exchange student so Justin wouldn't be alone. The student ends up being a Pakistani Muslim who isn't exactly welcomed in Medora, Wisconsin.

This show really ended up being whole hearted and didn't go overboard when it came to jokes. I've seen the first episode approximately 5 times and I uploaded it on SpikedHumor.

I recommend checking out the pilot and if you like it watch it on CW on Mondays @ 8:30!

NFL Week 4 Picks Versus Spread Results

I went 8-6 last week which is "okay" but not too happy about it. The 2 games I didn't choose to gamble on were losses and my speculation was right though I didn't make the right picks here. My current record is 34-21 which most gambling sites would argue is decent. It doesn't give me much room for error though if I have some bad weeks.

Lessons learned: take home teams into account
The games I lost include:

Houston Texans and Atlanta Falcons. I thought this game was a "gimme" with the spread and Atlanta surprised while the Texans disappointed. You could argue the Texans had the injuries but so far for the season they have been impressive.

Baltmore Ravens and Cleveland Browns. I actually wanted to choose the Browns but felt that I was being biased in thinking that the Ravens suck and overrated so I chose the safe pick with Baltimore and I should've gone with my gut.

Chicago Bears and Detroit Lions. I did a post saying Kyle Orton should be in there.

Pittsburgh Steelers and Arizona Cardinals. I disregarded everything I read as I really liked both teams and I choose the Steelers since they were very dominating.

San Diego Chargers and KC Chiefs. Disappointed in San Diego one of my 3 favorite teams (Colts, Bills and Chargers). I was concerned at the big spread as well and I wouldn't have put my money on this.

MLB Divsional Series Playoff Predictions

Last year, my predictions for the MLB playoffs SUCKED. I did horrible and I believe I read into it and trusted "authority" figures and yeah so that's where I faulted.

I am going to do it round by round because I don't want to make a fool out of myself (cheating in a way).
One thing I did learn: momentum is OVERRATED. Doesn't matter who's September was better it's a meaningless measurement.

Colorado Rockies vs. Philadelphia Phillies
Winner: Colorado Rockies
I can't pick against a fellow Canadian in Jeff Francis. I also believe the Rockies are clutch which is needed in the playoffs. They proved while being down in the 13th inning they could come back regardless of who is pitching. I don't want to take the Rockies based on their momentum but I believe their team is good enough. I don't like Philadelphia's rotation.

Chicago Cubs vs Arizona Diamondbacks
Winner: Chicago Cubs
I just don't believe the rest of the rotation of Arizona has much of a chance. The first game of the series is probably the most important as Webb NEEDS to win or else Arizona is in trouble. This is more of a lesson like last year with the Twins and Santana. Doug David...doesn't impress me.

New York Yankees vs Cleveland Indians
Winner: Cleveland
This has come down to pitching once again. The Indians have a great rotation that they can rely on deep into games. Carmona has been awesome as well. I really think some of the bats who have struggled during the season can break out. As much as I doubt Wang, he does struggle from time to time and when he does it's huge. Otherwise it's basically a toss u for me.

LAA vs Boston Red Sox
Winner: Boston Red Sox
No real logic put in here. Kind of a guess and I'm on the fence on this one. I don't know LAA well enough.

Chicago Bears Have The Wrong Guy At QB!

The Bears replaced Rex Grossman with Brian Griese for this week's games.

While I condone the replacing of Rex Grossman, the Bears made a mistake replacing Grossman for the WRONG guy. The right guy is Kyle Orton. Orton is a 3rd year player who sat out all of last season watching on the sidelines. However, rewinding back to his rookie season in 2005 he went 10-5 leading the Bears to a playoff spot and was pulled when Grossman came back.

Orton's statistics sucked in his rookie year but he was just learning and it's not like other QBs have fared that much better. Alex Smith's stats weren't that great for his rookie season either. It's now 2007 and Orton is quite deserving of another shot. He did nothing to suggest otherwise.

Since Griese lost this is much easier to say this but why isn't Orton in already?

Screw that Griese is the veteran, Orton will at least limit his mistakes and win games!

Heartbreak for Mets Fans

Right now I would hate to be a Mets fan. My condolences to Hugo of Bluebird Banter who has taken a charge of the Bluebird Banter website and made it successful. He is a Met fan first and foremost. Not sure if he will see this but I definitely don't want to remind him. This downright BLOWS.

I probably would be in tears if my favorite team had a historic collapse due the emotional rollcoaster that the Mets have put their fans through. After first losing a 7 game division lead and giving up the lead only to come back and tie up the Phillies heading into yesterday's game.

The sad thing is that they controlled their own destiny and all they had to do was win against the Marlins and then pull out a win against the Phillies. They failed and while it's historic and all, it's times like these when your loyalty is tested.

Congratulations to the Phillies and the only reason why the Mets fans get my sympathy is because they aren't Yankee fans!!!

Some thoughts:
I really like the Los Angeles Kings. If they can get good goaltending from Jonathan Bernier, don't be surprised if they make the playoffs. I'm glad they waived Dan Clouthier who I was bashing in the off-season.

Otherwise notable teams out of the playoffs include Nashville who sold off their team and I expect that they will struggle due to the environment.

I'm thinking about swapping Calgary with Vancouver. Vancouver didn't improve their huge need of offense and Calgary hasn't either and I believe that may effect their chances as other teams have improved vastly.

Steve Downie Suspended 20 Games for Brutal Hit

Steve Downie a 1st round pick and team member of Canada's dominant World Junior Hockey Tounaments has his career starting off with a huge suspension. Personally after seeing the hit, rightfully so. I am surprised the NHL is giving out the larger suspension after other brutal hits.

Downie's hit was more a flying spear rather then a body check and he was like 3 feet in the air due to his momentum. He seems like a small Sean Avery type where he will annoy and agitate the other team but still you have to draw the line somewhere and Avery hasn't done anything this bad.

Downie will learn and the NHL has finally toughened up.

Here's the video of it. The announcers are douche bags "He left his feet a little bit".

His feet were over his head. To me a check involves standing on your feet before and after the hit as that means it was in control. I think if you fall down while checking somebody especially with a big hit you are more likely to hurt someone and the NHL should institute rules on controlled hitting and people not being reckless.

This week I am playing $2 on 12 games (starred) where I win money either winning 10 to 12 of the games. Highly unlikely but for fun but if I win all 12 that would be $2000.
Like every week, when I pick dogs it's in RED and when I pick favorites it's in blue.

Oakland Raiders*(+4) against Miami Dolphins -Culpepper's revenge and I believe the Browns are better then Miami.

Houston Texans* (-3) over the Atlanta Falcons -Houston is good

Baltimore Ravens (-4.5) over Cleveland Browns. -I actually hate Baltimore but trying to reverse my biasedness.

Chicago Bears*(-3) over Detroit Lions. 3 points is a no brainer but I had to go with 4.5. The Bears have the wrong guy at QB it should be Orton (dedicating a post)!

Green Bay Packers* (-2) over the Minnesota Vikings. -Did people miss last week's game, easy spread!

Dallas Cowboys* (-13) over the St. Louis Rams - In Dallas, St. Louis should have some problems and Romo will light it up.

Buffalo Bills* (+3.5) over the New York Jets -Hmm why am I picking Buffalo again? Well this is there good chance to win and I expect a close game.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers*(+3) over the Carolina Panthers. -Carr possibly in? That made my decision.

Seattle Seahawks (-2)* over the San Franciso 49ers -Seahawks by a field goal was my first thought

Pittsburgh Steelers (-6)* over the Arizona Cardinals -The old Ben Roethlisberger is back. He's clutch on 3rd downs again and that's where he looked poor last year.

San Diego Chargers (-12) over the Kansas City Chiefs. The Chiefs won't have any offense but I am little concern about the spread which is why I didn't bet on it.

Indianapolis Colts (-9.5)* over the Denver Broncos. The spread is a concern BUT I am not a believer in Jay Cutler. Psh he may look nice but he isn't a winner! Barely winning over Buffalo and Oakland (with McCown) says it all.

Philadelphia Eagles (-2.5)* over the NY Giants. As much as I hate Donovan McNabb for bringig up the race card I did believe he would strike against the Lions and they should get rolling.

New England Patriots (-7.5)* over the Cinncinati Bengals - if there is one team that it is necessary to have a good defense against it's the Patriots and you can't play from behind because that's where the Pats pull away.

Colorado Avs Off-Season Moves Will Get them to the Playoffs

The Colorado Avalanche missed the playoffs last season for the first time in a long time(I can't pull the number off the top of my head). I think I actually believed they didn't deserve to be in the playoffs after some suspect moves and they just didn't have a strong enough team.

This year is different. The Avalanche used the vast amount of cap space to sign Ryan Smyth (Captain Canada) to a contract that will pay him 6 million per year and Scott Hannan to a deal that will pay 4.5 million per year. These are great moves I would think because it adds toughness to the blueline and they needed more offensive talent after trading away Tanguay.

One of the most important things is the situation in net. Peter Budaj in unquestionably the starting goalie and I believe he has enough skill to carry them. No way Jose!

The future looks bright for Colorado. They have a little bit over 5 million in cap space this year and have Theodore coming off the books next year (6 million) so they can be big players in next year's free agent frenzy. With young guns like Statsny and Wolski this team is shaping up nicely despite the little set back last year.

Thoughts On OSU's Gundy Opinion On Reporter

I loved this speech. I don't see how "writers" can be critical of Gundy's opinion even if he attacked a reporter. Reporters attack people all the time and they deserve to eat their own words with what they write. I myself hate the media because well, it blows.

Anyway Mike Gundy probably made a sale to a lot of parents and athletes by making that "rant". I really believe every word he says. He is making a rant about Jenni Carlson who wrote an article on QB Brandon Reid. OSU lost an upset victory to Troy State and the newspaper basically attacked Brandon Reid's character calling him a wuss who has injures "but doesn't gut it out". Basically he was characterized as a momma's boy and soft and not willing to win etc.

The tone of the article by Carlson is TERRIBLE. Basically it's asserted that this reported has "inside" information and it wasn't merely an opinion but a deliberate attack. Very poor article and if you saw my response to Tim Dahlberg with his "opinion" on the Blue Jays I had roughly the same reaction.

NFL Week 3 Picks Against the Spread Results

Going into week 3 my record was 17-12-3 and this week I followed it was a 9-3-4 week improving my record to 26-15-7. A winning percent of 63.4% is pretty good but I've got to keep improving as I go along.

When I write my results I look at this week's losses and see where I messed up.

Green Bay 31, San Diego 24
I had said this one on paper didn't make sense for me to take San Diego with a negative spread (I use statistical analysis a lot) and sure enough I was wrong. I wasn't surprised because Green Bay showed a consistent level of play the last two weeks. I think San Diego will improve but they aren't last year's dominant team yet and may not be this year. Green Bay looks like a playoff team.

Well he is letting baseball fans vote on what to do it on his website Vote756.com. There are 3 options, give it to the hall of fame and bestow it, brand it with an asterisk and then donate it to the hall of fame or three send it to space.

Voting ends on September 25th. I've personally voted to asterisk it because that's the only real entertaining way.

UFC Knockout displayed a Pay Per View that has turned up the light heavyweight division upside down.

The two main matches featured former participants of "The Ultimate Fighter" but these upsets were huge. The ones who did say that were chances of an upset weren't all that committed to it as it was a long shot that both would win the fight.

I think I like this part of the UFC as it should be unpredictable and have smaller guys come up big.

This makes UFC interesting and now I've got to see the fights. Totally crazy what happened!

I'm tired of OJ, it's sour and I am bored of it.

Not OJ as in orange juice but the media coverage on the OJ Simpson story involving sports memorabilia.

I don't care what OJ did, it's in the past and he can't be tried anymore on the case because that would be double jeopardy (referring to the double murder).

However, OJ hasn't done anything in years and I'd prefer to just not talk about him and he doesn't deserve the sports spotlight.

This is WHY I hate the media. Instead of getting some news story we have the OJ Simpson media blitz which makes sports EXTREMELY boring.

Please just quit talking about OJ or I will smash my TV. He's not worth your eyes and ears.

SF Giants Used Bonds for Homerun Record

It was announced yesterday on Barry Bond's website that Bonds would not be returning to the San Francisco Giants.

This comes to me as no surprise. Why? Because I believed the Giants only wanted Bonds to get that elusive home run record. Now that he has had the record, they want nothing to do with him and his "baggage". Granted they shouldn't go with Bonds as they are going with a much needed youth movement.

It's clear they used him to be that team Bonds got the record with. Isn't that unfair to Bonds that the Giants used him despite all the hate towards BB?

UFC 76 Knockout Predictions

Chuck Liddell vs. Keith Jardine
Winner: Chuck Liddell. Jardine is not even in the class of Iceman. Liddell lost to arguably one of the better fighters in the world, Rampage Jackson. Jardine is coming off a 48 seconds loss as well (albeit to Houston Alexander). Jardine didn't do anything to earn this fight and I think it's just a stepping stone for Liddell to come back.

Mauricio Rua vs Forrest Griffin
Winner: Shogun Rua. Rua has beaten some pretty big fighters including Rampage. Forrest Griffin has yet to beat a top fighter and while winning this fight will propel him to get a title shot I don't see it happening. I wasn't really impressed in his fight against Ramirez.

Diego Sanchez vs Jon Fitch
Winner: Diego Sanchez. I am choosing this based on Diego really needing to move back near the top of the welterweight division after his loss to Koscheck. Fitch based on his track record could pull off the win and this looks like the best card of the night on paper.

Lyoto Machida vs. Kazuhiro Nakamura
Winner: Lyoto Machida. I know nothing about these two fighters and this is based on track record and Nakamura hasn't fought in over a year.

Tyson Griffin vs Thiago Tavares
Winner: Griffin. Based on me seeing Griffin vs Guida. I don't remember much about Tavares but I do remember seeing him.

Matt Wiman vs. Michihiro Omigawa
Winner: Wiman. Don't know anything about Omigawa. Wiman was impressive on TUF and Dana White liked him before his upset against Gamburyan.

Cuban and WWE To Have MMA Promotion?

It's no lie now that if you follow MMA, you have heard the stories surrounding Mark Cuban and his desire to start an MMA promotion and signing the likes of Fedor Emelianenko away from the UFC.

One of the bigger stories that compels me is that Cuban is looking to team up with WWE Chairman Vince McMahon.

If this is true the UFC should watch out. With two guys with deep pockets, they can buy away some guys and get considerable TV coverage to boot.

The WWE would be wise to move in the MMA scene as the "sports entertainment" business is failing and people want violence to be real. It would also create a nice bridge from having guys go in between the WWE and MMA and it would probably create a larger fan base among fighters.

There will always be a competitor when it comes to organized fighting and while UFC will probably remain popular, Cuban can make some Tidal waves.

Donovan McNabb is Annoying!

Donovan McNabb has brought up the race card once again. This is after his disappointing loss to the Washington Redskins on Monday night.

This isn't the first time has occurred. But this time I really believe it is without its merit. His claim that black QBs face more scrutiny then his white counterparts in which the QB faces the most scrutiny in the game of football.

McNabb is clearly out of bounds here. Being black has nothing to do with it, it's all about being the best person for your job whether it is coaching or playing any position. It is about your skill and if you don't put the effort fans on the field whether you are Rex Grossman or Michael Vick you will be criticize. Take example, Vince Young. He is slowly becoming the face of the NFL because he is exciting and he's simply a winner. Don't whine when sh!t ain't going your way, Philadelphia fans just want to win and just admit to the fact that you can do more for your team.

I am going to back Rush Limbaugh's statement (partly) that we want these guys of different race to be successful. Who wasn't rooting for a Lovie Smith and Tony Dungy to be in the Superbowl? Race isn't the issue it was when Warren Moon was playing.

No one else has made these complaints and there is a vast number of black QBs. So if they have do a "little extra" to have their jobs wouldn't there be more complaints as a lot of them have gotten chances to start and succeed.

On a lighter note: A bigger issue in sports is the discrimination of short people, specifically heightism. (I'm 5'5) Shorter players are usually the subject of losing value and not seen in a good light when hey are trying to make professional leagues like the NFL, NBA, NHL, MLB. One main thing that they are discriminated against is the draft process which has a lot to do with money. Shorter players may be just skilled as the #1 pick in the draft but will probably be the picked in the hundreds based on height. Always a key thing for people not picking a player is that "he's not tall enough". The height factor has probably not allowed certain players from opportunities and even Doug Flutie at "5'10" wasn't given a real chance and had to play in the CFL. Stop making height a big deal scouts and just choose the best player.

NFL Week 2 Picks Versus Spread Results

I had a tough week going 6-9-1. My record is now 17-12 on the season.

Here is where I explain myself in the losses:

Cleveland Browns 51, Cincinnati Bengals 45
Derek Anderson continues to impress, despite a low pass completion rate he just gets the job done and he'll definitely get Player of the Week honors.

The larger spreads killed me, I was on the wrong side the entire week:
Picking Buffalo (+9.5), Bears, Jaguars and Broncos disappointed by not beating their "assumed" much weaker opponents.

New Orleans surprised people with how bad they were and I think many people were on the opposite end of this one.

The spread really killed me this week and hopefully I can bounce back.

I generally have a problem with larger spreads and hopefully I can improve it.

Oden Injury Bringing Up Huge Concerns

The Greg Oden Injury first and foremost is a huge blow to the NBA fans. He was absolutely dominant as a Freshman in the NCAA especially in the tournament. If you watch him play you understand that he will be a dominant NBA player...if he can get away from the injury bug.

Oden had an issue earlier this summer with having to remove his tonsils, now he's out for the season after undergoing microfracture knee surgery.

I've read some articles where they compared Oden to Sam Bowie as if they passed on Michael Jordan. Let's get this clear, while Durant will likely be an all-star he is no MJ. He earned college basketball's top honor as a freshmen but he didn't dominate in the NCAA tournament.

Now people are saying that NBA scouts knew all along that his body has been battered, he has a leg that is longer then the other etc. It makes it all the better that he is sitting out the year and resting up.

Just remember Oden will be back and he's still young. There is nothing wrong with him being out now rather then later down in his career. Amare Stoudemire proved that he can come back from the injury without missing a step.

Oden in 2008 isn't so bad! Besides Portland wasn't going to have a dominant team just yet and it's actually better for them.

Analyzing the Nokelainen for Walter Trade

Garth Snow continues to make good trades and he has earned my respect. Peter Chiarelli has been someone I have continued to bash and this trade makes me feel a little better on my own thoughts. The trade involves seldom known players in Petteri Nokelainen and Ben Walter. The New York Islanders also received a conditional 2nd round pick.

Petteri Nokelainen was a 1st round pick of 2004. At 21-years old he is very young and is considered a "two-way" player. I used that term lightly because he has never displayed much offense. 16 points in 60 games in the AHL is very poor and to me he looks like at most he'll be a a 4th line role player. Offensively he CAN improve but it he will have to make a major leap to get my respect as a prospect.

Ben Walter was the MVP for the Providence Bruins, Boston's minor league affiliate. Walter was drafted in the same draft as Nokelainen but much later in the 5th round and as a 20-year old. Wallter has always displayed offensive talent and some believe he projects to be a 2nd line player but he will definitely contribute with points.

I personally haven't seen Walter play but with regards to potential and statistics it's clear Walter is more a little more valuable then Nokelainen. Boston gave up a 2nd round pick as well just to get a younger prospect who was a first round pick.

Garth Snow fleeced Kevin Lowe to get Bergeron and made a purely gutsy move in acquiring Ryan Smyth to propel them into the playoffs. He is slowly moving into the the top 5 GMs.

York University Safety Issues; Another Sexual Assault

York University is the school I attend and York has been under scrutiny with the recent on campus sexual assault.

Many people are expression concern due to this being the second issue in consecutive years. We had an issue a year ago where an attacker would assault victims walking at night alone.

Some things I do notice about York students: when it is night time. There are very very few lights. It makes this difficult to see. I can only see a person's face when 6 inches in front of me. This is a safety issue for me when riding my bike. I've almost crashed into people and randomly hit objects or worried about cars hitting me.

I think people need to be more careful. Security is everywhere when you walk. It would be easy to smuggle in a weapon of some sort but let's not get to that topic... You are NOT safe anywhere if you don't take the necessary precautions. Avoid walking alone, lock your rooms (dorms were unlocked in the residence of where the assault took place) and there's nothing wrong to ask for the company of a friend.

From my experience tons of people are walking alone at 10PM and York is pretty secluded as you have to travel a long way to reach a very public area at night. I recall walking home at 11PM and a female stranger was asking me directions to York. I told to her to safely walk on the sidewalk where the main streets were but she persisted to ask me how to take a "short cut". That short cut was through a bunch of trees with no lights...

Wanting to feel safe is important but sometimes in order to feel safe we have to sacrifice our own liberties so we as people need to take responsibility and be smart about the things we do.

One Week After the UFC 75 Debacle

It feels as all of the UFC 75 Media coverage on television didn't do UFC any justice.

The recaps on respected channels available in Toronto and in the rest of Canada, Roger's Sportsnet and The Score both cover results of UFC 75. It was FUCKED when they recapped the Cro-Cop disappointment and the Henderson/Rampage fight basically skipping over the HOT topic all across the internet.

On Roger's Sportsnet they ANALYZED the fights. Such as where Cro-Cop would go from the disappointing loss and Henderson's future as he was 37. They made no mention of the WORST judge decision EVER. It was the the top under card for fuck's sake.

This makes me terribly upset as it's just the media trying to withhold the fan reaction to just the internet junkies and not make it a big story that it actually is. Thankfully Kevin Iole is on the people's side. He wrote another article criticizing UFC 75 and giving up some much needed reaction from UFC President Dana White.

The main topic was the way Bisping acted. Bisping is now enemy number one who acted like a fucking jerk. Saying Hamill should go back to wrestling and thinking he won the fight out right. That was NOT the Bisping I liked. The Bisping I liked was not overly cocky and just did his job when he had to fight. Anyway Bisping was asked that he won the fight and he said "Of Course", the reporter then said "Seriously?". Bisping shot back "What do you mean, seriously?" Bisping said. "Do you want to go three rounds? … Of course I won the decision. Get the (expletive) out of here. Get that smile off your face."

Who's willing to pay to see Bisping now? Hamill is now much more respected and while he had a cocky attitude I think he will be liked much more and will have a better career then Bisping. The records don't matter in the end and fan opinion means much more then some stupid record so Bisping has lost out and he's a loser in our hearts.

Recapping what Dana White said he believed Matt Hamill did win the fight (thank god he didn't bullshit that one). One interesting that Kevin Iole did point out is that the UFC regulates all the fights in the UK since there is no governing body to overlook the weigh-ins, the drug testing, referee selection.

The UFC COULD have rigged it and it's probably unlikely they did because the risk is bigger then the gain but Iole points out that they shouldn't come back to the UK after this debacle but White doesn't want to financially.

The UFC can't make a mistake now though. Everyone is watching and if shit like this happens again, fans will abandon the sport and act on their threats of not watching the UFC ever again. I would suggest firing the two judges that made the mistake when going back to the UK and give Hamill more fights AS IF he won that fight.

A HUGE news story came out yesterday where Formula 1 racing was going through their own scandal. This one involves apparently confidential information regarding the dominant team that is Ferrari.

The main story is that the governing body of Formula 1 racing has handed down a fine like no other. One hundred million dollars!! I feel like I am Dr. Evil from Austin Powers as the number sounds absolutely ridiculous.

It makes you question whether the fines held against most teams are pointless because nothing has been close to the $100 million and fining someone a million is generally unheard of.

This story may overshadow the Lewis Hamilton cinderella run in the sport of Formula 1.

$100 million...I still am speechless.

The Office (US) is Hilarious

2 weeks ago I decided I would download all 3 seasons of the Office. I am looking forward to the season 4 premiere.

Before I didn't quite understand the jokes until I watched it from the start and now I am embracing the series. I am not sure if I will like having to watch each episode a week since I used to be able just watch each episode back to back. I would end up watching one season a day and I enjoyed myself.

Sorry for the no sports today but I went out to do stuff and sports takes a backburner when I can't get myself to write something good.

It is strongly recommended to watch this show.

Patriots Stealing Signs is No Big Deal

Bill Belichick's initials fittingly are BB which stand for Big Brother as "he is watching you"! LOL.

The New England Patriots have gotten in trouble with the NFL and Commissioner Roger Goodell as this was the second time the Patriots have been caught videotaping the other team. They were last caught videotaping the Green Bay Packers.

My stand on stealing signs is that is part of the game. Whatever league rules are, being one step ahead of your opponent and predicting what they are going to do is part of coaching. If you aren't cheating you aren't trying and while I am okay with the NFL putting on sanctions against the Patriots this shouldn't be considered a big news story.

The NFL wants to reduce the amount of signal stealing but everyone knows that you can't have the same play calls, the same snap count cadences and different words for different plays. Coaches cover their mouth due to the hiring of lip readers. Why don't team do dummy signals? They do it in baseball. Stealing signs is part of the game and while you may accuse someone of stealing signs what is the foul in doing so?

Football is a chess game and if you know what your opponent is doing that helps you with your next move. If it up to the teams to hide their own signals I would say.

I understand the NFL for being angry but I think they should honestly just allow it league-wide and have teams adjust it since it'll be done anyway.

Prayers to Kevin Everett

I watch the Buffalo Bills every week (we also get their games in Canada). I am also a Miami (FL) football fan for whatever reason (don't know how I got into them). Anyway I knew about Kevin Everett since his Miami days and was rooting for him to do better.

He has suffered quite a number of injuries in his NFL career but not as serious as what happened to him on Sunday. It was during one of those dangerous kickoffs where he put down his head and went to hit the returning and got him in the head/shoulder area.

Either way Everett went down like he was hit by a bullet and when I saw it, I knew it was serious.

The type of tackle he made was sound other then not going lower.. sometimes it happens where you hit someone high.

I must say I am surprised it doesn't happen more often in the NFL. In rugby I was told to make those hits where we lower our heads and just take the guy out. Sometimes I would land on my head or have pretty bad concussions.

At first the news stories were that he would probably have some paralysis but now that he has been able to move his feet and hands there is a great/excellent chance he will walk again (which is the most important).

Everett may never play in the NFL again but I hope he can live a normal life.

Why Doesn't the NHL Do More Outdoor Games?

The NHL is going to have another outdoor game as a New Year's Day special between the Buffalo Sabres and Pittsburgh Penguins.

I am excited for this game because it could be an excuse to get tickets to one of these events. I am contemplating on whether I should get a ticket as the Edmonton/Montreal heritage classic was very exciting.

My only problem is that a game being played outdoors shouldn't be news.

Hockey is an outdoor game and the outdoor games people are excited to go. A team should host an outdoor game once a year due to the money it brings in and it's exciting for the crowd to see a winter sport played out doors.

Why haven't the Maple Leafs played in Roger's Centre yet? It would sell out with 50,000 fans and with a retractable roof it wouldn't be a concern with bad weather conditions.

Outdoor games would save the NHL if they used it more often.

NFL Week 1 Picks Against The Spread Results

I had a very good week to start the season (it's usually pretty bad to start) by going 11-3-1. It is currently a 79% winning percentage though I don't make money off this I do it out of personal pride. Staying over 50% is worth boasting about like I did last season.

Here were the losses:

Green Bay 16, Philadelphia 13
This was an upset and I figured the Eagles would be better than 13 points. Philadelphia by 3 seemed like a gimme selection and they still could have pulled it off near the end. Maybe Green Bay is better than I think they are?

New England 38, New York Jets 14
I pegged this one as a 3-point game and wanted to take advantage of the 6.5 point spread. The New England offense proved to be excellent. I do have a hate for the New England Patriots (I am an anti-band wagoner) so that may have also factored in on the selection.

Houston 20, Kansas City 3
I feel really stupid about this one. I liked both teams going in. I have a Matt Schaub infatuation (in purely football skills loving way). I figured the Chief's offense was going to be good enough to be good enough. Being the underdog as well I figured it might be close as I liked both teams but that backfired.

Overall, it was a very good week and most of the games went as expected. Maybe I can get a perfect week? One thing for sure though if I see the NFL Analyst for the Toronto Star having a sub-.500 record, I am going to contact the Toronto Star about picking at least someone who will give good advice ;).

Darko Milicic Over Reaction To Referees

Darko Milicic had a HUGE outbust against international referees after a tight game against Greece where Serbia lost by 1 in overtime. They were eliminated and finished winless in 3 games.

Sometimes newspaper and television doesn't do justice when it comes to important videos. Both have to conform to certain laws when it comes to language. Milicic's remarks are UNPRINTABLE even for this blog but I can still show it in a video and thankfully the internet has things like YouTube.

I actually like Darko more then I did before seeing this video. It was pretty badass and funny at the same time at how pissed off he was. In no way do I say that what he said was appropriate but it's better to look at it with the lighter side of it.

Obviously he has gotten himself in trouble. He was fined $10000 euros and it was not well received by the Memphus Grizzlie's brass.

Thank god for videos as no article on the internet explains the type of the content found in this video. Recommended for sports fan.

Mark Bell Suspended Indefinitely 1 Year After Incident

Mark Bell was placed into Stage 2 of the Drug Abuse Program and thus he is suspended indefinitely until the NHL reviews his situation.

The suspension was based on the fact that Bell made a guilty plea in a DUI/hit and run incident in which he was sentenced to 6 months in a county jail.

This situation is pretty stupid. Yes, Bell deserves a suspension for his off the ice action but one-year later?

It feels as if he probably already learned his lesson and should've been suspended on the spot rather then a year later.

The NHL was clearly not on the ball like the NFL is with their players. It probably was a hot topic outside the US but on radio it was highly discussed how his crime is still a terrible one and that he isn't setting a good example with what he did.

Update: He has been suspended 15 games.

Ottawa Lynx Leaving Doesn't Bode Well for Canada

Sunday usually isn't an eventful day but it time to do a rant.

Specifically about our progress in the sport of baseball. The Ottawa Lynx played their last game against the Syracuse Chiefs fittingly which was the Toronto Blue Jay's AAA Affiliate.

Basically in Canadian baseball terms, there is no longer any team above the A ball minor league level other then the Toronto Blue Jays.

This is terrible news for Canada as a whole. While it's great we have a major league team we did lose the Expos a few years ago. A lot of our major leaguers come from all over the country.

I am not sure how interest in baseball will continue since baseball probably takes a back burner to sports like hockey, basketball and football.

Baseball will ultimately not progress in Canada due to the lack of exposure in the smaller areas of our country and Toronto being so far away.

We will still have talent displayed with some upcoming young Canadian talent but when we have very few Canadians from 10-15 years in the majors we can look at this event as the reason as why.

Matt Hamill vs Michael Bisping Screw Job!!

Tonight on the main card, the match before the main event featured two guys from The Ultimate Fighter 3, Michael "The Count" Bisping against Matt "The Hammer" Hamill.

Bisping is from England where UFC 75 was held so he was clearly the fan favorite. He was also the pre-match favorite by most as he is a very viscous fighter. Hamill is a deaf Div. III wrestler and has previous shown poor stand up.

I first read the spoilers on Sherdog saying that Bisping had won via split decision.

I watched the fight and saw Matt Hamill dominate all 3 rounds easily. To everyone's surprise it was by stand up and Hamill actually let Bisping up after repeated take downs. Even the announcers were admittedly impressed by Hamill's improved stand up.

Then I thought back to the spoiler results. 30-27 for Hamill, 29-28 for Bisping, 29-28 for Bisping. After seeing that fight I am sure that this match was rigged. The fight was lopsided that one judge agreed with me and a lot of the articles are worded as such.

This one has a bad stench to it since Bisping was the hometown favorite and I hope something is done or else I am going to keep recycling these posts. Making someone lose is just wrong.

Mike Bisping turns to one of the fighters I hate by saying Hamill "should go back to wrestling" when he was clearly defeated. Asshole.

This protest by me and others won't end until Dana White steps in and changes the final decision to this judging disgrace.

Glaus Implicated with Steroids

Troy Glaus just went down a few notches in respect with me when a Sports Illustrated source leaked out information that Troy Glaus received steroids from 2003 to 2004.

This is huge news surrounding the Toronto Blue Jays and Hugo from Bluebird Banter dedicated a very long post to Glaus situation.

On the steroids situation, I do condone the use of it to heal injuries. Glaus was indeed injured around the time the steroids were purchased but it no way did he need to buy steroids from one of those phony clinics.

The main issue here is that Glaus, violated the MLB drug policy and should be suspended on review.

Despite not physically testing positive or actually catching him with the steroids, his name will always be tarnished from this point on.

Glaus seems to have benefited from the use of steroids. After the 2004 season he signed a 4 year 45 million salary. He certainly has lost my respect despite my ease on the stance of steroids (he did cheat under MLB rules).

Steroid issues another dagger to the WWE

The WWE suspended 10 "unnamed" wrestlers that they will announce on November 1st.

The speculated list includes many high profile names in the WWE. Some of them include guys like Edge, Johnny Nitro (or John Morrison), Umaga (listed as Eddie Fatu), Shane Helms, Chavo Guerrero, Chris Masters, Simon Dean (aka Mike Bucci), Randy Orton, Mr. Kennedy, Funaki, and William Regal.

Umaga and John Morrison each were stripped of their titles this week so it does say something about it. Eugene was released and he had been suspended after an incident involving some drugs.

We will find more information when the WWE does release these names but this might be the dagger for the WWE as they have to take out some of their better performers because the people who aren't fans of the WWE are saying that steroids are wrong etc.

I will say that the WWE will probably be around for awhile but it looks to be in a decline and I haven't watched at all since the Vince McMahon angle and when the Benoit situation popped up.

It just doesn't seem likely that the sport will improve especially with the rise of MMA where real amateur wrestlers can make it big.

UFC 75: Champion vs. Champion Predictions

Dan Henderson vs. Quinton Rampage Jackson

The Championship vs. Championship match I am really unsure about. I question motived for having such a fight already as a lot of us here in North America don't know much about Henderson and we were just introduced to Rampage. I'd like to think Rampage will win it. Winner: Rampage Jackson.

Matt Hamill vs. Michael Bisping

This should have been the fight in the The Ultimate Fighter Finale. Hamill was taken out unwillingly due to an arm injury and ineligible to win. These are my two favorite fightings. One is absolutely viscous but not cocky at all and Hamill is great despite being deaf. I am going to pick Michael Bisping due to experience. However Hamill's striking is underrated. Should be a great fight.

Mirko "Cro Cop" Filipović vs. Cheick Kongo

I have to assume the UFC wants Cro Cop back on track after the Gonzaga upset. Kongo doesn't have the track record or experience so I am going with Cro Cop.

Houston Alexander vs Alessio Sakara

Alexander was impressive vs Keith Jardine albeit in 48 seconds it was very action packed. I know very little about Sakara other then him losing to Dean Lister which makes it easy to pick Alexander.

Paul Taylor vs Marcus Davis
Winner: Marcus Davis. I did get to see Marcus Davis fight and he has been a 9 match winning streak. I expect him to continue winning against the hometown favorite.

Casey Printers is back in the CFL! Yay!

The NFL does not know what they have missed out on in Casey Printers. Printers is just 26 years out and was the CFL's most outstanding player in 2004 in his first season.

He has awesome passing skill and scramble like the best. He seemed to do okay in pre-season action but it seems like all he needed was to be given a chance and the NFL can't provide that.

Printers is a rare talent that has yet again slipped through the NFL's crack but I'm glad he is back because I love watching him play. He is earning a well earned salary since he solidified himself as a star in the CFL despite being so young and without experience (look at Mike McMahon and other former NFLers who have sucked).

The Hamilton despite being a rival of the Argonauts, is a perfect team for the Ti-Cats. Hamilton needed a player of his caliber desperately to re-ignite fan interest and start to win again.

Sometimes the NFL just doesn't know talent and Printers will definitely be one of the best CFLers ever by the time his career is over.

This is the hardest division to predict as every team has a chance to win.
1. Seattle Seahawks
2. Arizona Cardinals
3. San Francisco 49ers
4. St. Louis Rams

Other then Seattle on top the rest is crap shoot for me. I see St. Louis aging with their wide receivers. Bulger is good and all but how good will he be with more ineffective targets?

The 49ers are probably going to have Frank Gore injured because he always is despite him being really good. I expect Alex Smith to keep progressing but without Norv Turner the offense isn't going to be as good.

I really like the direction the Cardinals are going. The offense will be good with Leinhart at the helm and James (though he did suck) as the RB.

I don't want to diss the Rams but I think this battle will be the most exciting in the season.

NFC South Predictions

The Saints have a great offense and I expect them to repeat what they did last year.

The Panthers should be in the playoffs even though they seem to disappoint year in and year out.

The Buccaneers may have struggles with their quarterback carousel and their rebuilding defense.

The Falcons are expected to do nothing with no QB. They wish they had Matt Schaub.

NFC East Predictions

The NFC East is always a tough one to predict every year.
1. Dallas Cowboys
2. Philadelphia Eagles
3. Washington Redskins
4. New York Giants

With Dallas, I was very impressed by Romo last season (who wasn't?) and I think he'll continue his wave of success despite that fumble at the one yard line.

Philadelphia keeps making into the playoff regardless of who is on the team and that's a testament to Andy Reid.

As for Skins and Giants, they are not quite the playoff team this year. I like the Redskins with Jason Campbell but Portis needs to do more with the ball (or the Redskins should do more with Portis e.g. release him). The Giants will miss Tiki and without Michael Strahan they are not a force on D.

NFC North Predictions

Probably one of the weakest divisions in the league.
Here what I'll think it'll finish:
1. Bears
2. Lions
3. Packers
4. Vikings

The Bears would be subject to the Superbowl runner-up curse but the odds are severely stacked against that happening in this division.

The Lions are a mediocre team with a good offense and I don't think they're all that great but I believe they are in a better situation.

The Packers and the Vikings I could not say more bad things about them. Favre needs to retire and maybe another bad season will help catalyze things. As for Minnesota I really don't think the Tavaris Jackson situation is lined up for success. In fact, they probably are candidates to win the 1st overall pick in my opinion.

AFC South Predictions

This is probably the toughest of all AFC divisions to choose from.

Here's what I think:
1. Colts
2. Titans
3. Texans
4. Jaguars

The Colts remain a good team but they lost several pieces after winning the super bowl. They look to make the playoffs but their defense may suffer a decline.

The Titans I want to move down to 3rd pending a Madden cover curse but I don't think it'll come to fruition. I do however think Vince Young will struggle a little at times with his passing game. He is a star and the new Michael Vick with better QB skills but it's only his 2nd year.

I really like the Texans with Matt Schaub. Well I really like Matt Schaub but at this point it may not make them a winning team, I think they have made the right steps to secure that in the future years.

With Jaguars, I don't see Garrard doing particularly well enough to impress with me a winning season. He does have some skill. I do like the combo of Maurice Jones-Drew and Fred Jones but something tells me the Jaguars are due for a bad season. They were my jinx team as I constantly kept getting them wrong and I refused to pick their games so hopefully that doesn't play into this year. I really think they have the pieces to be a superbowl contender on a given year but they need a QB.

AFC West Predictions

The Chargers are my team to going far in the playoffs (a little biased too). I really think the Norv Turner raucous was stupid with his track record. You've got to fail before you succeed.

With the Chiefs, they were a pretty good team despite their QB situation. While the same guys are there I think the team will respond positively with Huard and Kolb. I like this team without Green and they can just give the ball off to Holmes and LJ. I really like their youth movement and what Herman Edwards is doing.

As for the Broncos I see a 6-8 outcome. Jay Cutler (pictured) is not the player he is hyped to be. He does look pretty like Quinn but remember he had no track record for success in college where Quinn was under the radar the whole time. Cutler who does look good doesn't impress me and this reflects how I think the Broncos will do.

The Raiders are rebuilding around JaMarcus Russell and will be good in 3 years.
